The Orloff Mansion is a historic building located within the Orloff Resort complex on the island of Spetses. Simpl. was commissioned to restore the 18th century mansion and design a compatible building extension to host new guest houses on the same property. Our goal was to research and preserve the building elements that date back to its original construction and restore them to their former glory. This included the removal of newer structures that had compromised the mansion’s authenticity, as well as the restoration of all authentic materials.
As part of the redesign, the mansion’s layout was modified to accommodate three apartments that can be booked individually or as a whole house. This will provide guests with a unique opportunity to experience living in an entire 18th century mansion on the island of Spetses.
The new building extension was strategically designed to be located in the back of the property, in order not to deprive the mansion from its vital surrounding gardens. The location and geometry of the new building was design in balance with the historic Mansion. The design was inspired by the traditional building morphology of Spetses, while being more subtle than the original mansion in order to establish an architectural hierarchy. The new block houses five separate studios, with the option of merging some units into larger family apartments.
